Cabin filters are interesting items. They have been first introduced in the 1950s, however only became popular and standard items for cars in the 2000s. As the passenger compartments of cars are small, enclosed spaces, the amount of pollution inside can actually be higher than outside, should pollutions not be filtered.
The air in most cities is polluted. In slow moving traffic or when standing at a traffic light, the air pumped into the car’s cabin would contain exhaust fumes, bacteria and even viruses. During the pandemic, cabin filters moved into the spotlight, with HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filters being offered. Cabin filters need very little attention. Filters should be replaced regularly, just like any other filter used in the car. It is recommended to change them at least once a year or after 12 000 to 15 000 kilometres of driving.
