Keeping the shine of your car enhances driving pleasure and retains value

Car Care
Interior and Exterior Detailing Tips – Prolonging the vehicle's aesthetic and interior quality.

It is unavoidable that our vehicles get dirty when we drive them. Keeping them clean and neat helps to retain their value while making us feel good when we pull up at the office or for a gathering. A few simple procedures will help to maintain the glamours appearance of your car.

Looks matter. Maintaining the neat appearance of your car starts with washing it regularly. It is important that a sufficient amount of water and detergent is used to rinse off any dirt. Small debris may scratch the paintjob when washing your car without enough water, so it is important to rinse off dust first. Waxing your car is another simple, yet effective step in keeping your car’s shine. A layer of wax will protect the paint from UV light, dust, and other pollutants. Droplets of water may act as prims, bundling sunlight and burning paint, dulling its look. Wax allows for water to rinse off the cars body, preventing such damage.

We like to park under trees to keep our cars cool. However, birds also enjoy their shades. Bird excrement is acidic and can “burn” into paint. It is best to remove bird droppings immediately and completely.

Braking will generate fine dust, material that is shaved off from the brake pads. This fine dust will settle on the rims of our cars. To clean that, a special detergent can be used. Similarly, to wax for the paint, such cleaning agents also coat the rims with a fine protective layer that allows for an easier removal of the brake dust in consequent rinses. As their intended use is very different, household cleaners are best not be used for your car. German Motors recommends using detergents and cleaners that are specifically formulated for the use on motorcars.

Keeping the interior of your car is also important. However, smaller items may fall onto the floor, roll around and lodge under the pedals. This could pose a safety risk. Therefore, decluttering your car should be a task you perform after every ride. To keep the shine, use floor mats. Aftermarket floor mats are relatively cheap; protecting the original floor mats from wear and dirt will pay off when trying to sell your vehicle. German Motors offers a word of caution: cheap floor mats will often bleed out chemicals used in their production. These cause an unpleasant smell that is often retained in the upholstery of your car. Such chemicals may also be harmful to your health.

Dashboards, door panels and armrests are made of plastics, genuine leather or artificial leather. Each of these surfaces is subjected to the elements; sunlight, air-conditioned air and the touch of our hands. Thus, on a regular basis, they should be cleaned and treated with the material-appropriate cleaning agent. Leather and artificial leather in particular require regular care. The harsh sunlight in our region will dry out such material and they may crack, looking ugly. Applying leather care products will ensure a smooth, neat surface.

A small, battery powered vacuum cleaner should always be handy! A few moments of vacuuming your car at the end of the week will make a difference when it comes to its appearance. Basic cleaning of your car is also a very important step in keeping it safe: while you are cleaning it, you will be able to spot any potential damage or wear and tear that may need to be looked at.
