Fuel Quality Matters: What Happens When Your German Engine Meets Low-Grade Fuel

German automobiles are known for their high level of technical sophistication. In particular, many components in the engine bay involve fuel. As the carrier of the energy, fuel is one of the most important fluids in a car. Besides that, the quality of fuel used also impacts emissions, performance and longevity of the engine. While most petrol stations offer suitable fuel, there are still some questionable sources for cheap fuel.

Following the recommendation of the maker of your German Auto, one should always use the fuel indicated. These fuels will contain the required additives to keep an engine running smoothly. Low-quality fuels can be lacking these additives, causing premature wear and tear, rough idling and increased fuel consumption. German Motors’ technicians oftentimes hear that the money saved is not worth the long term hassle caused.

Low quality fuels typically also result in harmful deposits on parts like injectors and valves, and corrosion from additives like excess ethanol. Here, too much of the additives can be a bad thing, resulting in damage, rather than being beneficial.

The performance of a finely engineered vehicle, such as a German car may also suffer when fuels of low quality is being used. An engine is designed to produce a certain amount of power / torque in order to smoothly and energy-efficiently propel the vehicle and its load.

One indicator of fuel being of substandard quality is “knocking” noise from the engine. This is caused by premature or incomplete combustions. Besides causing harmful deposits, misfiring engines typically experience increased wear on their precision components. Many times, German Motors has seen the damage done; when it comes to the engine of a German brand car, the repairs are typically extensive and can result in increased service bills.

As a general guideline, our staff would recommend to never compromise on the quality of fuels. It is best to stay with the fuel quality as per manufacturers indication: better quality fuels may be used, despite not being required.
