Around your car
Maintain a clear sight with these simple steps to keep your lights clean

Good vision and being seen are crucial when operating a motorcar. Nowadays, daytime running lights are becoming a standard as they are enhancing safety on the road. Headlights and taillights become dirty and eventually, the light bulbs blow, and the glass or plastic might become cloudy.
Lights should be checked regularly for functionality. Our colleagues at German Motors highlight that some vehicles have warning lights, which tell the driver that a light may not function properly. If a car does not have such functionality, a walk-around with lights switched on every now and then is recommended.
Regularly washing a car will ensure that the lights are shining bright. Too much dirt accumulated on the glasses may reduce the amount of light visible to other road users, hence, it can become dangerous to drive as others may misjudge distances to our car. Over time, plastic and glass may become cloudy. Special cleaning agents can be used to repair these surfaces.
If water has entered the lighting assembly, immediate action should be taken to drain the water. Water in the lighting assembly can cause electrical short circuits; a potentially dangerous situation is created. It is important that the leak is also identified and sealed to avoid water from entering again. From experience, German Motors knows that over time, the seals of the lighting assemblies can become brittle or loose and thus leaks can occur.
Headlights should also be checked on a regular basis for alignment. Both headlights are to point specific directions to project lights in the manner designed by the car manufacturer. In most cars, the light beams are to illuminate different areas of the road. For instance, in some cars, headlights may turn into the same direction as a curve when turning the steering wheel. German Motors has specialist equipment handy to test and adjust the headlights of your car.
When replacing light bulbs or LEDs, it is important to ensure that these are the right type to match the ones specified for your vehicle. Using lamps with different specifications may have an impact on the electrical system. When handling lamps, avoid touching the bulb surface or inside reflectors with bare hands. Oils from skin can lead to breakage or shorten the life of the lamp. Use clean gloves or lint free cloth for installation and removal. Clean any dirt, oil, or lint away from the lamp with alcohol and a lint free cloth or tissue.
